LBS HELPS CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS BUILD THEIR SKILLS - 21 April 2010
LBS Builders Merchants was recently delighted to hear about two Towy Valley students who were recognised in a building skills competition which LBS sponsored.
LBS supplied all the building materials used in the SkillsCompetition Wales South West and Powys regional heat held in Pembrokeshire College. Construction students aged 14-19 were given five hours to complete a project, based on real life tasks in their chosen discipline, which included brickwork, painting & decorating, plastering, carpentry and joinery. The projects were designed carefully to test the skills of the students and included designing and painting a Welsh dragon in the painting and decorating category and building a wall in the brickwork category.
Aeddan Poulton, from Llangadog, was awarded the gold medal in plastering and Geraint Price Davies, from Llandovery, won the bronze medal in pre-16 construction.
Mark Davies, LBS Managing Director, said: “We are extremely proud to be able to encourage young people aspiring to enter the construction industry by supplying materials for a great skills competition like this, in which Aeddan and Geraint have excelled. We are delighted to see this pair of local students doing so well - hopefully they will flourish in the industry and in a few years we will see them become the next generation of craftsmen.”
